My look, Her Look, Mom's Look

It's been WAY too long since I've done a My Look, Her Look, Mom's Look but I'm excited to bring it back today. I've been dreaming about the shoes above since the first day I laid eyes on the Loeffler Randall Spring/Summer campaign. They are the perfect combination of casual and dressy all in one. There are not many places I go that these shoes would not be acceptable. From biking to a game in the outfit I pulled together below, to a date night thrown on with a dress or skirt like in MK's outfit or if you're lucky enough for sandals to be appropriate for work mom's outfit would definitely be a go to me!
denim shorts | stripe t-shirt | necklace | sunglasses | watch | backpack
My look is super casual and comfortable. That's the main reason I love these shoes. If I spend too long trying on an outfit I tend to always just grab my most comfortable shoes. In the winter that's a pair of thick heeled grey booties and I've been on the hunt for a summer pair to fit this need. I think these may just be the ticket!
bucket bag | sheer stripe shirt | brass necklace | chambray skirt | gold hoop earrings | wallet
I'm kind of obsessed with the outfit I pulled together for MK. It's hard to see in the image above but that top is slightly sheer in between each stripe. I love that! The colors are so soft and feminine but the sheer makes it a little edgy. That top combined with the gorgeous white bucket bag is the perfect combination!
navy pants | red sweater | white button down | gold hoop earrings | perforated bag | gold collar necklace | glasses
I love that this look is equally appropriate for my mom but for really for anyone in a professional environment too! I honestly think most people own something similar to all of the pieces shown above, minus the cool collar necklace, but throw on a fun new pair of shoes and your outfit is instantly transformed.

Which is your favorite? I'm really digging MK's look this time!

Work Uniform

Have you guys read this article "Why I wear the same thing to work everyday"? I originally found it through Cup of Jo and have since read every version of the article there is, I'm obsessed! Female art director, Matilda Kahl, got feed up with being late and/or frazzled getting dressed and arriving to work daily. So she decided to eliminate that stress from her day and decided she would develop a work uniform. She wears the same black pants, white silk shirt, a personal memento - a black leather rosette - around her neck daily.

Ironically I was just speaking with some coworkers about work uniforms. After a women I work with asked me in a stressful moment if she was accidentally wearing the same thing she wore on a few days earlier, a male coworker told us he wears the same 4 shirts every Monday through Thursday. I've been working with this guy for a year now and NEVER noticed this! Fast forward a week or so and I read this article - I think the universe is telling me to develop a work uniform.

MK mentioned "I think hair and makeup become more important when you wear the same thing everyday. Otherwise you become a boring hag. A new fresh lipstick, keeping your hair cut and style up to date are key here". I couldn't agree more! She also mentioned that she has somewhat of a work rotation, which is kind of a meet in the middle option, black skinny pants and a few tops she wears weekly. This may be a good way to ease into this uniform or may work even better for some people if one shirt is too boring.

Also, I won't lie, a major reason this is appealing to me is because a work uniform would allow me to shop for my work wardrobe only once a year and then think about fun clothing at all other times. I typically try to buy clothes that fit the bill for work and play but in all honesty it just makes me land on more traditional (read boring!) play clothes because my work is so conservative. In some situations this works and is an awesome option but in my case, my work is much more conservative than my taste outside the office which makes it difficult!

As noted by Matilda, this process allows you to find a uniform that is quintessentially you. You can see her work uniform, pictured above, is far from boring but still professional and appropriate for any office! I think I just might do it!

What do you think? Would you wear a work uniform?

Cheap Thrills

one | two | three | four | five | six | seven | eight | nine

We've talked about spending vs. saving a lot on the blog and I'm sure it's no surprise to anyone that for the most part MK and I both tend to spend money on classic wardrobe staples and save on trendy items. The tricky part can be finding those trendy items for a reasonable price though.  Today I rounded up a few trendy items for Spring for under $30.

I think these items can update a classic outfit with just the right amount of interest but won't break the bank. I just ordered these and I can't wait to pair them with everything from jeans to dresses. They're perfect casual but fun piece for my otherwise neutral wardrobe!

What trends are you into this Spring?

Spring Trends

ONE: Mules seem to be everywhere right now. I was hesitant at first but I'm completely on board now and on the lookout for a good pair to add to my Spring french five. I love how simple and clean they are!

TWO: Jumpsuits have been around for a little while now but they seem to be even bigger than ever this year. I've been seeing casual and even dressy jumpsuits in magazines and ads for Spring. I love the versatility of them and the comfort is an obvious sell.

THREE: I'm on the fence on the slides trend. It reminds me of soccer sandals from when we were growing up but they are all the rage right now. On one hand they are so comfortable so why not go for it, on the other hand they just aren't very pretty! This mix between the a slide and a Birkenstock is kind of a beginners version that I may try.

FOUR: Loving the flared denim that is everywhere right now. The key to me is the flare starting just below your knee (not your calf!) and the they seem to require a heel which kind of stinks but a wedge works too and would be perfect for spring!

FIVE: Hats are somewhat of a leftover effect of the winter hat trend but they are sticking around and in all forms for Spring. If you're already comfortable with a wide sun hat and Panama hat try a light colored fedora for a fresh look.

I may be jumping the gun a little talking about Spring but it's right around the corner and if you don't snatch a few new pieces now they'll be sold out when you get around to it later. A mistake I always make! What other trends are you seeing for Spring?

My Look, Her Look, Mom's Look

When I saw this skirt in the new J.Crew style guide something about it stuck with me. I just knew it could be so versatile. It's a little out of my comfort zone with the a-line fit but the fabric looks light enough to lay nicely and I love the subtle hint of black and white. It adds just enough interest to this skirt to keep it from being too little girly for me.
Old Navy shirt, Forever 21 sunglasses, H&M scarf, Club Monaco clutchEddie Borgo earringsSole Society shoes
The casual concept behind this outfit was my first thought when I saw this skirt. I love love love the chambray shirt against the black and white lines. The lack of color in the skirt allows you to be more playful with color in your shoes too. I don't usually do lots of color in an outfit so I left the remaining accessories neutral but fun.
Givenchy earrings, Soludos espadrilles, Forever 21 sunglasses, H&M sweater,
Clare Vivier bag
If I'm being honest this may be a little out of MK's comfort zone but I think it would be such a cute casual option for her transitioning to spring. The flats are easy to wear and I kept the accessories minimal(because Virginia is in a grabbing earrings phase)with cute stud earring, big sunglasses and a giant bag to house anything and everything she needs to carry these days.
TopShop blazer and top, Forever 21 sunglasses, Kate Spade earrings, and Club Monaco pumps
This outfit was my second thought, when I saw this skirt. Black and white is a classic combination so I thought it would be so pretty to play up the traditional lines and colors here. Paired with a classic nude/blush pump(to elongate your leg) and a fitted blazer this is a classic outfit without being boring at all.

Like I mentioned here, I struggle with the concept of dressing for work and for the weekend so I loved that this skirt has the ability to be worn on the weekend with either of the top outfits above but could also be worn in a more corporate environment just like in mom's look. Bonus - if it's still chilly where you live I think the crisp white would look great against black tights right now. I also think this skirt would be so cute worn with a silk top for an evening out. You could keep it classic with black or add a color, mint or jewel tone would especially pretty. I think it's such a versatile piece! What do you think?

My Look, Her Look, Mom's Look

You guys this dress is on sale at Old Navy right now for $20. You read that right! I love a good comfortable dress that can be dressed up with shoes and accessories but is cozy enough to wear all day. I think this dress is so versatile that's why I picked it for September's My Look, Her Look, Mom's Look series.
Gap jacket, Michael Kors watch, Marc by Marc jacobs scarf, Mardwell tote, Page Sargisson earrings and Rag and Bone booties
I kept my look pretty casual to show how this dress is perfect for all day. I love how this crisp black and white dress transforms with suede booties, a leather tote and a perfect light weight jacket. I'm loving this army green color for this fall it seems to make almost any outfit a little more interesting.
Clark's booties, Marc by Marc Jacobs bag, Loft belt, Odette bracelets, Madewell earrings and Juicy Couture necklace
I am really loving MK's look this month! The bow on that belt is feminine but the leather makes it not TOO girly. I'm seeing bucket bags everywhere right now and I love them but the color on this one completely sold me. And my absolute favorite pair of booties are Clark's, (they're not ugly I promise) they're super comfortable and cute. So I ordered these booties(above) as soon as I found them online. If they are anywhere near as comfortable I am sold! You should probably all run out and get them NOW!
Jennifer Meyer earrings, Asha necklace, Joan and David shoes, Zara handbag and blazer
Mom's outfit is pretty typical with her red blazer, my mom LOVES red if you haven't caught on yet. I know she would wear these shoes all the time, she also loves basic blacks. I love the tiny little gold heel but I'm really obsessed with the tortoise pattern on these

Don't you think this dress could be worn a million ways? A casual look for me, dressier and modern for MK or pretty traditional and classic with mom's look. Love a versatile piece like this!
