Dream Vacation - Driving the Coast of Maine

Growing up in South Carolina, most of our family beach vacations were spent along the low country Carolina coast.  (Most summer vacations were in Pawley's Island/Litchfield Beach, and we love this no-frills, laid back area of the coast!)  Heath spent a summer in college as a nanny in Northeast Harbor, Maine and I'm dying to take a summer vacation sometime to Maine's coast for a change in scenery.

I'd like to fly into Boston and spend a weekend in the city.  Then, we'd pick up our rental car (a Jeep preferably, cheesy but we have to be able to ride with the top down!) and take our time weaving in and out of Maine's charming coastal towns stopping in at least Kennebunkport, Freeport and then Bar Harbor.  In each little fishing town, I'd like to stay in a traditional New England old fashioned, charming bed and breakfast or resort such as the White Barn Inn in Kennebunkport.

Along the drive, we of course would have to break things up stopping at dive's for fresh Lobster Rolls.  We have lots of delicious fresh, coastal cuisine in the South, but lobster rolls are not typically seen around here.  I know that summers in Maine and the New England coast is the usual for some people, but for this southern girl it would be a real treat!  What other charming coastal towns should be added to our list?  I'd love any tips because this vacation is pretty high on our list!
